Our Story

From Pea to Pour
A bold spirit with a lighter footprint.
It Started With a Problem
Eco Gin began with a visit to a distillery — and a question nobody there seemed to be asking. Gin is a craft built on care and patience. So why does it start with one of the most resource-hungry crops in the field?
Most gin begins with a grain-based spirit. Growing barley and rye at scale leans heavily on synthetic nitrogen fertilisers, and that carries an environmental cost long before a bottle ever reaches the bar. We loved premium gin. We didn’t love that.
Then Came the Peas
So we started somewhere else entirely: the humble garden pea.
Peas work with bacteria in the soil to fix nitrogen straight from the air. They feed themselves, which means they don’t need the synthetic nitrogen that grain crops depend on. Ours are locally sourced, grown close to where they are distilled.
Better for the field. But could they make a good gin?

Turns Out, Peas Make Remarkably Good Gin
Not only did it work — we found that peas produce an exceptionally smooth spirit.
After fermentation, our pea-based alcohol is gently flavoured with a considered blend of botanicals: juniper, citrus and rosemary. The result is a fresh, contemporary gin we would choose to drink regardless of how it was made.
The fact that it starts with a lower-impact crop simply makes every G&T taste a little better.
Cleaner Soils and Waterways
Cutting artificial nitrogen changes more than what goes into the still. It reduces soil acidification and the fertiliser runoff that finds its way into rivers. Peas leave the ground in better condition than they found it, restoring soil health and supporting the biodiversity of the fields around them.
We Close the Loop
Our thinking doesn’t stop at the bottle. The fermentation by-products and spent botanicals left over from distilling are repurposed as organic fertiliser and returned to Four Acre Farm — local to our distillery, and the birthplace of Eco Gin. The nutrients go back where they came from, and very little goes to waste.
